First Misdemeanor
Sunday, September 30th
This morning during meditation I asked Somoya what I needed to know for today. I internally heard, "First misdemeanor". My first angst was around my son Mason. It was only a thought, not a gut feeling. But to be frankly honest, I didn't know exactly what a first misdemeanor was, except that it involved breaking the law in someway. I assumed my son, only because he is growing up fast! He is now 11 years old. Soon our son will be a teenager, often making poor decisions, due to raging hormones and peer pressure. Today I took him to a 5 hour class regarding sex education. He was shy and innocent about the whole content. As a parent you wish this will last forever.
Naturally, I Googled misdemeanor. One website stated that a misdemeanor is worse than citations or lessor crimes punishable only by fines. It is also a different classification from felonies. One can serve up to one year in county jail, plus fines.
Common examples:
>Assault or battery
>Interference with custody
>Peeping
>Theft crimes
>DUI or public intoxication
>Reckless conduct
>Receiving property stolen
>Trespassing
>Disorderly conduct
>Prostitution
My take away, is we as a society should also offer children all the information to best abide by the laws that govern our state or country. This way children are well informed and make better decisions as they slowly mature. I didn't receive much information about how our laws work while growing up. Plus, my parents used the fear of God and only said, "Stay out of trouble!" You have to admit, that is a bit vague. No matter what the subject matter, the more we are informed, the better chance we think before we act.
